The functional structural design of suits

Not only does the suit material feature functional designs such as anti-fouling and anti-wrinkle, but the suit's structure also incorporates functional designs for windproofing, wear-resistance, enhanced mobility, storage, and floral arrangement fixation.

The raw materials used in suits can meet the functional and physical wearing requirements due to their inherent characteristics. For instance, wool fabrics become more wrinkle-resistant when polyester is added, waterproof when a coating is applied, softer after adding cashmere, and less prone to static electricity after adding conductivity.

Different types of raw materials can provide various functionalities, while different suit structures can also result in different functionalities, thus meeting various wearing scenarios.

The functional structure of suits is mainly determined by people's usage needs. Therefore, the functional structural design is tailored to match those needs.

  1. Windproof structure design

The open collar is a prominent feature of suit collars. However, from a warmth perspective, this design is not very windproof, so wearing a scarf is necessary. Some suits have collar loops or use flower holes as buttonholes, with buttons attached to the bottom of the collar on the other side. This design can provide some windproofing without the need for a scarf.

  1. Anti-wear design

Traditional hunting suits often have leather covering the shoulders and elbows. This was originally meant to prevent wear and tear when carrying a gun or shooting while lying down. Nowadays, it's mainly used as a design element in the suits.

However, the elbows of many casual suits are covered with other materials. Such functional structural design is indeed helpful in increasing durability.

  1. Create more space for movement

Conventional suits give people a feeling of rigor and restraint, but suits such as hunting suits that require a certain amount of mobility can have accordion pleats on the center back seam or shoulders.

When at rest, the pleats are in a retracted state, and when movement is needed, the accordion pleats automatically open, providing more room for the arms to move and ensuring comfort during exercise.

  1. Storage function

In order to ensure the shape of the suit, stylists will remind customers to try not to put things in the pockets of the suit, but the storage function of the pocket always exists.

Suit pockets are usually either external or internal, but they can also come in different shapes and sizes. The external pocket shown in the picture above has a large capacity and can hold a lot of things.

  1. Flower holder

Don’t underestimate the small loop under the lapel, it can ensure that the flowers inserted on the lapel will not swing around.

Many suits nowadays do not have this stitching detail. Because of this, when inserting flowers on the groom's wedding suit, he sometimes has to use pins to fix it.
